I saw this little spot on the way back to my hotel...looks like a little dive inside and out, but the food is FANTASTIC! Don't get me wrong, its clean, just little and not very modern. I wouldn't want to dine-in b/c there is no atmosphere, but I would highly recommend take out! -The pork tacos were very flavorful, on homemade corn tortillas, fresh onion and salsa, very very good. The chicken was good and the beef was the most flavorful taco I have ever had...super super good. Great service as well.

We found this restaurant on yelp and I was extremely skeptical about coming here since the reviews were a bit mixed but we are soooooooo sooooo sooooo HAPPY we came here!!! I am originally from Chicago and it's been so hard finding good Mexican food. I am pretty hard critic when it comes to Mexican food and this just hit the spot. It was so good we ordered seconds. We ordered sopes, lobster enchiladas, tacos. The salsa was not spicy to me but my husband said it had the perfect spice to it. It was delicious regardless. For four of us 6 meals and drinks and a beer with $14 tip it came out to $70. Which wasn't bad seeing how we spend $90 on three sandwiches from another place. Definitely must try this place! We will be going back every time we go to the keys!

Oy. This place was awful. We went in on a weekday afternoon and both the food and service were terrible. We sat at our table and our waitress put some chips and salsa down. The chips were stale and the salsa was not good. We were the only ones in the restaurant and the service was beyond slow. The staff seemed more concerned about looking at their cell phones than waiting on us. Once the waitress put our order down, she never came back to check on us. It also took her a long time to bring our check. They also had one of their children there, I'm guessing. The baby was at the back of the restaurant and it screamed for probably 75% of the time we were in there. Overall, bad food, bad service, bad atmosphere. I do not recommend.

We love Mexican cuisine, and unfortunately in Key West GOOD Mexican food is very hard to find. I can't believe we haven't checked this spot out earlier. It's an extremely authentic restaurant with a very large menu full of options. The server was very friendly and polite. You can usually tell how good a Mexican spot will be with their chips and salsa, they were pretty good. As far as lunch went, we both ordered off the lunch special menu. My fiancé of course had the Chicken Burrito which he said was very good, they actually use real chicken which is rare to find . I personally ordered two Chicken Supreme Tacos with Rice & beans, it was all very good but extremely filling. Overall we had a great lunch and we will be back the next time we are craving Mexican. Yum!

Extremely authentic Tex-Mex, located away from the insanity that is Duval ;-) do not let the looks of the place fool you... The food is awesome, the portions are huge and the price is right!! I do wish the waitresses spoke a little bit better English, but, hey, it adds to the experience. Do not expect fancy in any way... Expect a mom n pop type place with great food and smiling faces!

Had a fabulous lunch there. Service was a bit slow, but always friendly and food was excellent. Some of the best traditional Mexican I've had in southern Florida. Prices are reasonable for key west. We paid $40 for two entrees, a ceviche appetizer, two drinks and a desert.

It's out of the way from the main tourist area and well worth the trip. The Chicken Enchiladas were phenomenally tasty. This place is rumored to have some of the best Mexican around and I completely agree.

This place is excellent with food and service. Typical casual Mexican restaurant décor. They provide chips and salsa. They have bottles on the table with a hotter sauce. Food came out quickly. There is only indoor seating and no bar. There is a side parking lot for a couple cars. I ordered the taco plate with steak. It was well seasoned. It comes with beans and rice. The tacos only have cilantro and onion on them.....AUTHENTIC! I also shared nachos with my friend. We ordered the shredded chicken. It was a very large portion. It was topped with shredded Colby jack cheese. Everyone was happy with their food. The corn tortillas tasted homemade. Prices are reasonable for the quality and portion size. I will definitely return on my next trip to Key West.

I recently visited Lupita's with a friend whose family is Mexican; from the outside (and the fact that several of the photo captions on their Facebook page are misspelled...), we had high hopes for authenticity. These hopes were not misplaced, but nor were they entirely fulfilled. My friend had the chicken mole, which was decent, but not especially flavorful. She said without hesitation that it wasn't nearly as good as her mother's...but since when is that a fair comparison? I was somewhat unadventurous and just had the house fajitas. These were pretty good, and the serving size was definitely satisfactory. But the corn tortillas were thicker than I prefer and, again with this dish, I thought that flavor was just a bit lacking. I wanted more cilantro, or lime, or something. I also got a margarita - because we ran there and I was in the mood - but it wasn't anything to write home about. Pretty sure they're pre-made. All in all, if you're hankering for Mexican Lupita's will scratch the itch but it probably won't compel you to come back over and over.

I'm a Southern California girl who grew up on legitimate, authentic Mexican food...this place is the real deal! I had the lobster enchiladas (which I never had growing up, but I love lobster and love enchiladas so there!)...delicious. The sauce is just a tiny bit spicy. The refried beans were really tasty and not gluey or gummy. The rice was fantastic! In my opinion, this what most restaurants get wrong most often, serving orangey, dry, tasteless stuff under the description "Spanish rice." Lupita's rice is moist and flavorful. Husband had a whole fried fish (snapper, I think) - said it was tasty, but just a wee bit overcooked. Sons had burritos and loved them. The guacamole is also very good and the tortilla chips look homemade. The decor reminds me of every mom-and-pop Mexican restaurant I ever frequented in California -lots of red and green and white and colorful tablecloths. Perhaps a bit cheesy, but it felt like home to me.

I usually get the pork carnitas Mexican style. They have a more liquid Salsa which I don't mind since I'm going to pour it over my rice anyways. Their delivery service doesn't go to stock island, but I just do take out on my way home from work. I also really love their chicken mole. The beer selection is pretty good. They even have the Puerto Rican Medalla beer. Calm atmosphere with Spanish cover songs playing in the background.

OMFG Amazing food. The service was not that great but I have had much worse. The food made up for any short comings. The price is super reasonable for the food.

We managed to cruise by this place on our scooter earlier in the week and decided to target them if we got a craving for Mexican food. Well, we got the craving and came by for dinner. This place looks like a complete dive and some of the people hanging out by the liquor store next door look really sketchy. Finding parking is also a real pain in the rear end, but when you finally get inside, you are greeted warmly in a very clean and comfortable dinning room. The inside looks and feels like the quintessential Mexican food restaurant...locally owned. Most of the customers are locals...another positive. I got the beef burrito with three cheese and mole sauce...was really good. My wife got the grilled mahi fish tacos. They were really good! There was a generous amount if fish and seasoned nicely. Our waitress was friendly and sincere and though she forgot to bring us a beer that we ordered, neither of us really cared enough to mention it because she was such a sweetie. If we lived in the area, we would definitely come back.

We LOVED this place!!! Whole family agreed it was the best Mexican we've had in quite a while. Very friendly staff and very accommodating to gluten free options. We're in Key West for 5 days and already plan to eat here again before we leave. Big burritos were awesome!!!

What up to you ghosts of your own city whom we all know too well: The ones who exit their normal habitat to exhibit sides of themselves that have been in hiding for most of the year, in a new ecosystem. You damn, kooks and booze hounds. We are so much alike! Can't you see!!?? Haaaaaazahhhh Players, it's Mr. FL is my Scapegoat, Excellence through opulence, Advance over consequence, G thang, red sweats, Banana Hands Buffalo Turkey 101. This spot gets three stars just because they got the PHAT-SQUAT Corona Familiar's. Ey, they are sooooo sick and so good and just illmatic to the upmost. A Corona Familiar is to me what your new born child is to you, that's really the only way to explain it. And I know some new parents out there reading this are getting upset. But, hey listen to me, you don't know how to party and you should stop having ugly kids. Any restaurant that gives you 32oz of booze at a time is cool x 3 with me. I was with 2 females who ordered a pitcher of sangria. One of the women is a straight up booze mcgooze and was hella bit that the alcohol content in the sangy-sang wasn't stronger. I tasted, it made my teeth red, and forced my genitals into my stomach; Men should never drink sangria. The Guacamole at this place is def worth peeping. It's refreshing and got a bit of a tang and smoothness that is mad good. The other food is hard to recall because I I implemented a straight-jacket on my mind by finishing 4 of those coronas before it came. They could have fed me octopus feces covered in goose blood, and cow intestine and filmed it and I would have said the shit was delicious and asked for more. #iuseawalkietalkiejusttogetabeverage For you cats who are trying to cause a ruckus in a new city, I would say this place is worth visiting off the strip in the late afternoon. Ya'll and your friends should get twisted off the PHAT-SQUATS, hop on the scooters, and holler at the pretty honeys elsewhere on the island. #Keeeeeeyed@KeyWest

Service was good, quiet little restaurant. Servings were generous and salsa was great!! I like very flavorful food so it could of used a little more flare for me.

Food is excellent, I have enjoyed many items from their menu and everything is good. I particularly enjoy their chicken enchiladas. Service could be a bit more attentive so 4 out of 5 stars.

Had lunch today carnita's great as usual! Their lunch menu is a bargain for Key West and I have not ever had a bad lunch there. Originally from Texas so I have tried all the Mexican food on Key West and Stock Island. This is closer to traditional Mexican than Tex-mex. Parking is limited to 2 cars in front and a few on the side of the building. Their dinner menu gets pricy but that is a Key West thing"!

Saw this quaint Mexican Cafe from the Sheraton Suites Shuttle on my way to Old Town & knew I had to try it. A short walk from Smathers Beach- maybe 5 minutes. Clean w/ friendly service. Wide variety on menu. I had 1 of the day's specials- blackened fish tacos w/ pineapple salsa. ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!! Fresh ingredients, perfect seasoning. Don't know what white fish they used? Liked it much better. Didn't seem like the usual cod used up here in NYC. Their salsa & chips were also amazing. I'm always in search of great salsa. The food was so good, I brought it back to NYC w/ me so I could eat it for lunch the next day. I would eat @ Lupita's once a week for the rest of my life if I lived in Key West. Seriously. A must for anyone visiting Key West.

Amazing Mexican food and owned by a super sweet family. Super authentic. The tacos are BOMB! And so are the chicken taquitos. Little hole in the wall place. Best Mexican on the island for sure

Awful. Ordered the quesadillas. Tasted just like movie theatre popcorn??? which I like, when at the movies wanting popcorn. Rice was dry and bland. Bummed because I just moved across the street and when being lazy the only other close option for food is Shanna key pub. Won't be going back.

Went to Lupita's for lunch today. it was delicious...such a great place. Warm, friendly staff...very clean...and the food was DELICIOUS! Fresh guacamole...great chips and salsa...and I had the Chicken tacos supreme...fantastic! The menu has a lot of wonderful looking options...I'll definitely be back often to try it all!\

Came here for a late lunch. I was craving rolled tacos big time. Unfortunately, they don't serve them here. I ordered the beef nachos and others ordered the tacos supreme. The tacos were good - the nachos were average at best. The service was less than stellar - took us almost 30 minutes to get our check and it wasn't that busy. It was an okay lunch but I wouldn't come here if I was really craving Mexican food.

We had the Guaraches (not the shoes) but sort of an open faced taco and the Chicken Quesadilla which comes with rice and beans. Both were OK but nothing to write home about. Something was missing in the flavor category. We thought the serving was large but, for Mexican, so was the price... $25.00 for two including one soda, taxes and tip. We loved the Mexican music but it was a little loud. Staff was nice and attentive.

The one next to Bare Assets was not good at all.. I'm sorry but just not what I was looking for. I expected it to be more like Chicos.. But no.

I just finished reading some of the less-than-stellar reviews, and I can't help but wonder if some that negativity was based in the fact that this is NOT Santa Fe cuisine, as is most of the fancy-schmancy Mexican restaurants that cater to the gringo palette. Mexican cuisine is highly regional, with a vast variation in styles, spices and offerings. On this occasion, I went in for Menudo, a beef tripe stew that is often served as a morning-after hangover cure.....but is very yummy in it's own right. I have experienced many variations in this dish, both in the USA and Mexico, not unlike how clam chowder varies from location to location. Lupita's menudo was a style heretofore unknown to me, but very tasty none the less. It was a bit heavier in the chili powder than I have had before, and had no hominy. It was presented correctly, with chopped cilantro, minced onion and lime condiments, and was muy sabrosa! I also enjoyed the chips and salsa, and the degree of heat in the salsa was just perfect for me, but might be a bit hot for someone not accustomed to traditional Mexican seasonings. Try a little before you dig in! The service was friendly and attentive. My oversized glass of diet coke was never empty, and the lovely waitress checked back on me several times. I saw on the menu where they offered tongue (lingua) tacos, another of my earthy down-and-dirty favorites, and I will be back soon to try those out as well. I had a wonderful meal there, and I WILL be back for more!

Sad.......Yes,the staff were very nice, but the food was not very good.It might be OK for some small town Mexican place, but not KW. Yes,chips were good, probably the best part of the meal.Salsa was....the chips were good. We bought Guacamole and it was OK,but it cost $6.50! You can get a Avocado salad at El Siboney that is twice as large, fresher and cost $3.50! Fish tacos ? Breaded fish-fried,ugh. The whole place reminded me of a Mexican restaurant 25 yrs ago in places that were not used to Mexican food. For their sake, they should drive up to Asheville and go to the White Duck Taco Shop to get some idea of what a Mexican restaurant should look like in 2013! I seriously wish the owners well, but I can't see Lupitas surviving in KW.Good luck!

This is probably the best Mexican food in Key West however that's not saying much because this is just average.
